Digital landscaping is a feature that we offer so the home or business owner can see the results before we start construction. These estimates are free of charge. After making an appointment to see your photos, one of our designers will walk you throughout the garden center to see all the plant material and hardscapes. If you have any questions on this service please feel free to call and ask!
For Unilock Paver Patios we also offer 3D Walk through presentations.

Unilock is a premier paver patio manufacturer that specializes in a quality formed block. These blocks can withstand 2-4x the strength of concrete! Many of these blocks have added qualities as well, such as stain resistance, color enhancement, and natural looks to them.
One project in 2015 and two projects in 2016 that were designed by Afton and Arlette and implemented by Greg and Steve were regional finalists for the Unilock Awards of Excellence. This region consisted of the state of Illinois, Iowa, Southern Wisconsin, and part of Indiana. This was a huge accomplishment to be nominated in such a large competitive Chicago and suburban market.
Stone Yard Art
Hardscaping is a practice of using hard landscaping materials such as boulders, outcropping, and flagstone. Stone is a great material to work with because you cannot kill stone and it is difficult to steal. The boulders we carry also help to anchor and define parts of the yard. When snow is on the ground, boulders can help determine boundaries and color in the off season. Our boulders come in the widest array of colors and shapes.
- BULLET EDGERS are a border material that is often used to hold in rock in a landscaping bed. This edger is buried level with the grass, so a lawnmower is able drive over top eliminating the need for weed eating.
- NATURAL STONE is a material that is not prefabricated and looks natural, because it is. The cool thing about natural stone is that it comes in lots of colors and textures. We carry a lot of natural stone in bulk for the DIYer or for us to do the installation. The Starved Rock Area and Illinois Valley Area are full of limestone which is a versatile stone that looks good in parks, yards, and along ditches. If limestone isn’t your favorite look, we have many colors to choose from.
- STONE YARD ART is especially important if you live somewhere with wildlife or high winds. Stone birdbaths are very sturdy especially if you have pets. We also carry natural stone animals that add some unique character to your yard.
Fountains & Fountainettes
A Water Feature makes a splash in the garden. The running sound is a perfect way to relax and enjoy the outdoors. We have many styles of water features, but the most popular as of late is the recirculating bubbler. If you want to attract wildlife, or just enjoy a natural sound check out a water feature.
The nice thing about a bubbler is that they are very low maintenance. Water is put in a buried basin (we carry very sturdy high-end basins to prevent cracking and decay). A drilled natural stone is set on the basin and a pump circulates the water over top. Decorative stones placed around it, completing the look. In the summer months maintaining water levels due to evaporation is required. In the late fall, pull the pump out of the water and leave it over the winter.
Fountains and Fountainettes
Fountains make a great focal point in the yard, especially since they look nice and have great sound. Fountainettes are smaller fountains that require less space than standard fountains. We carry many of these in stock. Come in to see what we have available.
Hydroseeding & Matting on a Hillside
Thomas Using the Hydroseeder on a Field
Greg Running the Hydroseeder
Hydroseeding is a technology that ensures the best lawn possible. After we level and grade the yard, a specially formulated mixture of fertilizer, grass seed, and inert material is sprayed onto the lawn. After application, constant watering will enrich the formula and provide a high-quality lawn.
A Little Need To Know…
After the seeding is done, having weeds in your yard is a natural process (because if you didn’t put down grass seed, weed seeds would still be there). For the first year, the weeds will be present. Mow the yard as you normally would and KEEP IT WATERED!!!!! After it has been in for a year, add some Weed Out Plus fertilizer. This will get rid of last years weeds and prevent them from coming up for the next year.
Projects in the Illinois Valley Area
We service a number of different areas but our most popular is the Illinois Valley. With locations like Starved Rock (Utica), Buffalo Rock (Naplate), or the I&M Canal (Marseilles, Ottawa, Utica, & LaSalle) that are all heavy in limestone, we like to make the landscape look like it has always been there. Natural landscapes like this can sometimes require maintenance and shade, two factors that not everyone has. If you are a busy family or individual, low maintenance may be a better option. For those our designers can come up with landscapes for people on the go. Here a some of the many examples of landscapes that we have come up with, whether you want an outdoor living space or a simple plan around the front of your home.
